I offer a range of walks as shown below. The duration of each walk is generally two hours and costs £10 per person.

For a group booking, no less than eight attendees are normally required with a maximum of twenty.

Hanging Sword alley

Dank and dirty they may have been, but this is where it all happened in the 17th and 18th century City of London.

Business deals took place on narrow pavements and later in the coffee shops, beer houses and chop houses. See where business was conducted and hear about some of the deals.

Explore the City of London, its institutions, the livery companies and how it makes our money.

Find out when and how the Bank of England was established and about the role of the Lord Mayor and the aldermen in the City’s affairs.

The walk starts at the Bank of England (Bank Underground Station) and finishes at its museum.

We walk through some of the Inns of Court and the Royal Courts of Justice and see where the students started.

Hear about famous people and famous cases and perhaps meet some real lawyers on the way.

An optional extra is to lunch in the stunning 16th century Middle Temple Hall. (Book in advance).

Parks

London is blessed with more green spaces than any other city in the world. Choose a ramble around one of the great Royal parks such as the Regent’s Park or a tour of the unexpected gardens in the City of London.

The walk starts at Regent’s Park Underground Station or at St Paul’s for gardens in the City.

Plague and the Great Fire

We find out what caused the last great plague to affect London in 1665 and what life was like then. Less than a year later the City is nearly destroyed by fire. Where did it start and stop?

How did the City get to grips with rebuilding much of what we see today?

The walk starts at Monument Underground Station and finishes near Smithfield.

The walk starts and finishes at Westminster Station Underground Station.

The Roman City

The City of London and Docklands boast dramatic and striking architecture to tempt the new breed of financial entrepreneurs and the newly transformed banks.

It all started with the invasion of Britain by the troops of Emperor Claudius in AD43. 

We follow the growth of the settlement of Londinium from a few years later to its demise in around 410. We then follow the trail from Southwark, near London Bridge, to the Barbican.

The walk starts on the south side of London Bridge and finishes at the Barbican.

Samuel Pepys left us his extraordinary diary chronicling nine years of momentous London history. We shall see where he lived, worked, loved and played!

The walk starts at Tower Hill Underground Station and finishes at St Brides Church Fleet Street.

Walk the river from the Tower of London to Docklands and hear about the history and characters on the way.

As this is a longer walk, we shall stop at a suitable hostelry on the way.
